About the position

The Digital Content Producer (DCP) at 2 NEWS is responsible for writing, updating, and sharing stories for wdtn.com, focusing on local news, breaking news, and nationally trending stories. The DCP plays a crucial role in growing website traffic and user engagement while maintaining journalistic integrity. This position requires a proactive and passionate writer who can work under tight deadlines and prioritize real-time news reporting.

Responsibilities

• Be the first to report breaking news stories
• Monitor analytic tools (Adobe Analytics & Chartbeat), social media, alerts, and all regional media for interesting and/or trending stories
• Write daily flip stories (avg. 6-8 stories/day) that are packaged to grow pages per session and time on page while utilizing SEO best practices
• Constantly monitor competition to ensure no flip stories across the DMA are missed
• Proofread, package, and promote stories from third-party feed partners (Nexstar Wire, NewsNation, AP, NBC, etc.)
• Proofread, package, and promote broadcast reporter stories
• Work with producers and news field crew on adding video to web stories
• Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with other members of the newsroom
• Manage passive livestreams
• Push engaging and breaking stories on mobile app
• Generate meaningful audience engagement on social media without baiting
• Develop new digital content ideas for wdtn.com
• Possess journalistic integrity and understanding of needs and expectations

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field (equivalent experience may substitute)
• Expertise with CMS workflow, digital storytelling tools, and FOIA and RTK process is preferred
• Ability to handle high stress environment and deadline pressures

• Expert in finding and pitching resonating story ideas that grow web traffic

• Highly detail-oriented with an instinct for newsroom judgment
• Must be self-starting in seeking out engaging shareable stories
