About the position

The Digital Content Producer at KATU/KUNP is responsible for creating, writing, and posting news content across multiple digital platforms. This role requires a passion for news, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will utilize analytics to guide story choices and engage with various sources to deliver timely and accurate news updates.

Responsibilities

  • Write, create, and post content to KATU.com.
  • Multi-task in a fast-paced newsroom, managing push alerts, live streaming, and digital story updates.
  • Post breaking news stories and video to digital platforms promptly.
  • Review wires, feeds, and news sources for content to enhance local, regional, and national coverage.
  • Communicate quickly and accurately with TV and digital producers about digital issues and trends.
  • Identify stories and content that can drive engagement and audience growth across KATU's digital platforms.
  • Compile, edit, and write news stories from various sources with an emphasis on breaking news.
  • Enterprise, report, and write local news stories with compelling headlines.
  • Collaborate with editors, reporters, and producers to post information and find relevant video content.
  • Brainstorm and create web extras to accompany news stories.
  • Produce multi-faceted online stories with relevant content and links.
  • Manage and support existing daily online newsletters and strategize for new ones.
  • Review and maintain site sections, recommending improvements for appearance and content.
  • Suggest new approaches for covering stories in digital formats.
  • Promote KATU.com content, especially in targeted growth sections.
  • Generate ideas for content that drives digital engagement from on-air promotions.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of online photo editing platforms.
  • Videography and basic editing skills are helpful.
  • Experience in creating and writing engaging posts for social media.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task while working independently.
  • Receptive to guidance and feedback, learning from mistakes.
  • Strong communication skills to work with digital and newsroom teams.
  • Ability to understand and report from a variety of sources, including press releases and social media.
  • College degree required.
  • Newsroom writing experience preferred.
