About the position
As a Digital Content Producer at WWJ Newsradio, you will play a crucial role in shaping the news landscape for Detroit's only all-news radio station. This part-time weekend position is designed for aspiring journalists who are eager to develop their skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for generating story ideas, conducting thorough research, and writing compelling news articles that resonate with our audience. Your work will not only involve traditional reporting but also the creation and distribution of digital content across various platforms, including mobile web, social media, and smart speakers. In this role, you will actively monitor breaking news sources, including social media, AP, and internal communications, to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Collaboration with broadcast staff is essential as you will tailor stories for digital formats, ensuring they are engaging and informative. You will publish articles, audio stories, podcasts, and short videos, while also writing and editing headlines to maximize audience engagement. Adherence to AP style and SEO best practices is critical, as is the inclusion of multimedia elements such as photos, audio, and video in your stories. Your responsibilities will extend to managing social media accounts, composing push notifications, and crafting newsletters to keep our audience informed and engaged. Responsibilities
- Develop story ideas, research and write news articles
- Respond to breaking news and actively monitor sources of breaking news (Social media, AP, internal communications, broadcast etc.)
- Collaborate with broadcast staff to advance and tailor stories for digital
- Publish articles, audio stories, podcasts and short videos on all digital platforms
- Write and edit headlines and text to position content for maximum engagement on the website, apps, and social media
- Ensure all articles comply with AP style and are SEO-friendly
- Ensure stories have appropriate elements (photo, audio, video)
- Post to social media accounts, compose push notifications and newsletters
Requirements
- Outstanding news judgment, and strong reporting, writing and editing skills
- Ability to work under deadline pressure, both independently and in a team environment
- Experience with content management/online publishing systems preferred
- Command of best practices on all social media platforms
- Knowledge of the political and cultural landscapes of the Metro Detroit area
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Availability on weekends and holidays is required
