About the position

The Lincoln Journal Star is seeking a Digital Editor to enhance its digital presence and engage readers through various online platforms. This role involves coordinating and publishing digital content, crafting social media posts, and utilizing analytics to inform content strategy. The ideal candidate will possess strong editing skills, good news judgment, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and publish digital content on the website and craft creative social media content on other digital platforms.
  • Identify multimedia opportunities on stories and help produce short videos, create graphics, and build photo galleries to drive reader engagement.
  • Use analytics to help generate story ideas and contribute to planning news coverage.
  • Work as part of a team with other editors to determine long-term and daily content plans.
  • Recognize breaking news stories, helping edit and post them quickly.
  • Write engaging SEO-friendly headlines and summaries appealing to current and potential audience members.
  • Engage with those who interact with our work on social media.
  • Use analytics to guide decisions and to determine strategy to attract digital readers and educate reporters and other editors on best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of one year of digital journalism experience required.
  • Strong editing skills and good news judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multimedia content production.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices.
