About the position

At the Hawthorne Gardening Company (HGC), we are dedicated to empowering individuals to garden, regardless of their circumstances or preferences. Our mission is to promote happier, healthier lives through gardening, and we are looking for a Digital Experience Marketing Manager to join our marketing team. This position can be remote or hybrid, based in Marysville, Ohio. The Digital Experience (DX) Marketing Manager will play a crucial role in our established marketing team, blending strategy with execution. This role involves informing and collaboratively executing content, channel, and marketing plans. The manager will be responsible for identifying and implementing platform integrations to deliver effective marketing strategies, managing external agency relationships, providing project management support, and executing hands-on tactical initiatives. A strong understanding of omni-channel marketing, which considers the entire consumer journey, is essential for success in this role. This position is expected to have two or more direct reports, making leadership and mentorship a key component of the job. As the digital marketing lead, the manager will apply their expertise across various platforms and channels, including social media (both organic and paid), email/CRM, web, and eCommerce. They will contribute to the development and implementation of digital strategies and best practices, inform marketing plans, and participate in brainstorming sessions to provide valuable recommendations. Monitoring and analyzing metrics and analytics will be critical, as the manager will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify user behavior patterns, improve KPIs, and uncover opportunities for enhancement. Additionally, the manager will develop and execute consumer-driven content plans in collaboration with the broader marketing team, ensuring that content aligns with marketing objectives and the consumer journey.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the digital marketing lead.
  • Possess and apply an understanding of platform and channel expertise, from social media (organic and paid), email/CRM, web & eCommerce.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of digital strategies and best practices.
  • Inform digital aspects of marketing plans and strategies, participate in brainstorming sessions, and provide recommendations.
  • Monitor and analyze owned metrics and analytics, working closely with cross-functional teams to identify user behavior patterns, KPI improvements, and trends.
  • Contribute to performance reports on a monthly basis to keep stakeholders informed on KPIs.
  • Develop and execute consumer-driven content plans in partnership with the broader marketing team.
  • Engage cross-functional experts to develop content that meets the defined plan.
  • Collaborate with social analysts to identify external content partners.
  • Collaborate with web lead for SEO integration.
  • Project management of content development, along with the marketing manager.
  • Lead the social media team, currently comprised of two analysts, setting standards and expectations for social media best practices.
  • Work day-to-day with analysts to create content calendars, address questions, plan content shoots, and actively manage social media accounts.
  • Grow and develop direct reports through training and coaching.
  • Act as the CRM/Email Lead, working in partnership with external agencies as needed.
  • Possess a working understanding of CRM best practices, including CANSPAM, List Management, Benchmarks & KPIs, and Analytics.
  • Build, test, and send B2B emails through Pardot and MailChimp, leveraging existing templates and processes.
  • Report on performance and develop optimization recommendations.
  • Contribute to the development of web projects in partnership with the internal Web team and external agencies.
  • Manage agency partner relationships, invoicing, and budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of comparable experience in digital marketing, consumer experience, or other relevant roles, corporate or agency.
  • Digital proficiency in Meta Business Suite, Wordpress, SalesForce, Pardot, Google Analytics, MailChimp.
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to influence and lead across the organization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including effective communication across functions and personality types.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Proven project management skills with experience balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to navigate a complex, cross-functional environment and add value.
  • Possess a strong work ethic with the ability to anticipate needs, work independently, and take initiative.
