About the position

The Digital Forestry Database Developer at the Institute for Digital Forestry is responsible for supporting scientific and research initiatives by translating researchers' needs into technical database implementations. This role involves dashboard development, data transport, quality assurance, and the implementation of effective data stewardship practices to enhance the accessibility and reusability of research data.

Responsibilities

  • Translate researchers' needs into technical database implementations.
  • Develop dashboards and manage data transport processes.
  • Ensure quality assurance, cleansing, profiling, and metadata enrichment of data.
  • Design and implement practices for data stewardship.
  • Generate metadata and implement organizational schemas for datasets.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of data-related cyberinfrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in geospatial science, geomatics, computer science, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in data analytics, data science, programming, or database management.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in translating customer needs into technical requirements.
  • Knowledge of statistical or analytical algorithm implementation and data processing.
  • Proficiency in geospatial data tools such as Esri ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Programming skills in Python or R.
  • Time and project management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with research data or unstructured data management.
  • Interest in agriculture or engineering domains.
