About the position

The Digital Hardware Design Engineer will be part of Apple's Wireless Hardware group, focusing on the design, implementation, and verification of baseband systems for mobile products. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance product performance through innovative system-on-chip designs and ensuring seamless integration of new digital interfaces and protocols. The engineer will also engage with external vendors to troubleshoot and validate silicon designs, contributing to the development of next-generation Apple products.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and verify baseband systems for mobile Apple products.
• Collaborate with internal hardware and silicon teams to bring up and validate new digital interfaces and protocols.
• Execute and debug system-level test plans for new silicon implementations.
• Work with external chipset vendors to develop integration and verification plans.
• Identify and resolve silicon design issues during prototype builds.

Requirements

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Solid understanding of SoC/PMU design and micro-architecture.
• Experience with high-speed memory systems and digital communication interfaces (e.g., PCIe, RFFE, SPMI, DDR, USB, SPI, I2C).
• Familiarity with interpreting complex schematics and PCB layouts.

Nice-to-haves

• Hands-on hardware debugging expertise using modern lab equipment (DSOs, Logic Analyzers, Protocol Analyzers).
• Prior experience in PCIe PHY validation and protocol analysis.
• Proficiency in developing tests targeting specific aspects of silicon designs and digital interfaces.
• Good understanding of modern operating systems, firmware, and device drivers.
• Expertise in creating basic software routines and test scripts (e.g., Lua, Python, C).
• Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude.
