About the position

BAE Systems is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to support engineering development, integration, testing, and transition to production efforts on complex electronic modules. This role is integral to a dynamic engineering development team, where the candidate will lead first unit tests, design verification tests, and integration tasks on complex digital circuit cards and modules. The successful candidate will possess strong technical aptitude and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across various engineering disciplines and functions. The role requires exercising discretion and independent judgment in technical areas, ensuring high-quality outcomes in engineering projects. The responsibilities of this position include designing complex high-speed digital circuit card assemblies, mentoring junior engineers, and supporting the testing and troubleshooting of systems, modules, and sub-assemblies of digital modules. The Principal Electrical Engineer will interface with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and other supporting functions to drive defect resolution to root cause. Additionally, the candidate will generate and implement improvements in product and test design methodologies to reduce costs, increase yield, and improve throughput. The role also involves generating and reviewing technical content for test procedures, drawings, engineering specifications, reports, and Engineering Change Orders, as well as providing training and support to technicians and manufacturing personnel as required. Moreover, the Principal Electrical Engineer will support Root Cause and Corrective Action activities and mentor peers and junior engineers in their areas of expertise. Responsibilities

  • Design complex high-speed digital circuit card assemblies.
  • Lead and mentor a team of junior engineers.
  • Support testing and troubleshooting of systems, modules, and sub-assemblies of digital modules.
  • Interface with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and other supporting functions to drive defect resolution to root cause.
  • Generate and implement improvements in product and test design methodologies to reduce cost, increase yield, and improve throughput.
  • Generate and review technical content of test procedures, drawings, engineering specifications, reports, and Engineering Change Orders.
  • Interface with governmental customers and suppliers as required.
  • Provide training and support to technicians and manufacturing personnel as required.
  • Support Root Cause and Corrective Action activities.
  • Mentor peers and junior engineers in areas of expertise.

Requirements

  • Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience.
  • Active Secret Clearance highly preferred.
  • High-speed digital design of circuit card assemblies.
  • Experience with the design, build, integration, and/or test of complex electronic systems.
  • Ability to research and apply electrical engineering principles and theories to solve electrical engineering problems.
  • Motivated self-starter with leadership skills and ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, judgment, and analytical capability.
  • Ability to close on discrete tasking in a timely manner and lead others to closure.
  • Experience presenting technical information to program teams and/or customers.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Eligible for DOD Security Clearance.

  • Active Secret Clearance highly preferred.
  • Industrial temperature or better digital circuit card design.
  • FPGA based circuit card design.
  • Experience with embedded processors, PCIe, Ethernet, 1553, SERDES, Fiber Optic.
  • CAD based schematic capture and simulation.
  • Ability to direct layout and routing rules.
  • Post routing simulation.
  • Active DOD Security Clearance.
  • Demonstrated design success - meet difficult design requirements.
