About the position

The Boston Architectural College Library is looking for a part-time Digital Library Assistant to support the Reference and Digital Initiatives Librarian with various projects. This role involves working with digital materials, assisting in the scanning and editing of images, and contributing to the organization and cataloging of library resources. The position is designed for individuals interested in art and architectural history, with a focus on detail-oriented tasks and collaboration within a small team.

Responsibilities

  • Scanning and editing printed materials to create online access using a book scanner.
  • Scanning images from journals and monographs using flat-bed scanners.
  • Manipulating scanned digital images in Adobe Photoshop, including adjusting, cropping, and repairing images.
  • Participating in research for images using library databases.
  • Assisting with cataloging images using FileMaker.
  • Managing images within JSTOR/Artstor.
  • Creating or adding information to library research guides.
  • Performing detailed work checking records, data entry, and organizing image files and paperwork.

Requirements

  • Earned Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Enrollment in a master's degree program preferred (such as Library Science or History of Art & Architecture).
  • Basic to intermediate skills using Adobe Photoshop.
  • Research skills.
  • Attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Interest and/or background in photography is helpful but not a necessity.
  • Library experience is helpful.
  • Interest in working with content from special collections.
  • Interest in cataloging images.
  • Ability to overlap work schedule with the Reference and Digital Initiatives Librarian's schedule.
  • Ability to commit to a consistent schedule.
  • Enjoy working as a part of a small team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
