About the position

The Communications Department of Innovation Works develops and manages activities, content, and relationships that enhance the organization's brand in real-time and online, building stakeholders' relationships for future partnerships and support. This department maintains relationships with the entire startup ecosystem, including entrepreneurs, investors, universities, elected officials, and fellow economic development organizations, all of whom support the inclusive innovation ecosystem. The department plays a crucial role in establishing and promoting the Pittsburgh region's identity as a tech hub that is welcoming and inclusive for all. The Digital Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and reporting the online marketing strategies for Innovation Works. This role involves planning and executing marketing campaigns, developing a comprehensive strategy for the organization's websites, and coordinating a multi-faceted content plan with the Communications Coordinator to implement across social media platforms. The Digital Marketing Manager is part of a small team that develops the voice of IW, ensuring the right information reaches the right audience using the appropriate platform at the right time. This position is essential in creating a continuous family of online and social media content that fosters trust in IW, partnership, and a high-performing portfolio. As part of the Communications Department, the Digital Marketing Manager collaborates closely with other departments to develop and market events, educational programming, and relationship-building activities on behalf of the organization, its partners, and the startup community. The Manager must be flexible, communicate effectively, and convey the organizational values of inclusion and innovation, working both as part of a team and independently.

Responsibilities

  • Set and manage digital marketing strategy to promote IW as the premier resource for local tech entrepreneurs and investors.
  • Develop and manage digital marketing strategies and campaigns that humanize the organization and create a sense of community for key stakeholders.
  • Develop cohesive online and social media presence from content creation to implementation schedules and project management.
  • Maximize content exposure with a multi-platform approach to ensure wide visibility on the organization's announcements and materials.
  • Manage organization's websites, optimize for SEO, track website traffic flow, and adjust content as needed; provide internal reports on analytics.
  • Plan, develop, edit, post, and manage the posting of various content types to online sites.
  • Work with an outside design firm for projects that cannot be handled internally, including soliciting bids and developing content.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure website effectiveness and provide actionable insights.
  • Optimize content for social media platforms and establish posting cadence to increase engagement and visibility.
  • Manage email-based marketing campaigns for educational and community development efforts.
  • Attend networking events to grow the IW community and promote events to reinforce partnerships.
  • Identify new digital marketing trends and platforms to keep the brand in front of industry developments.
  • Provide assistance for portfolio companies to help them establish good communications practices.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated excellence in online and social media marketing from inception to implementation.
  • Five or more years of experience leading digital marketing efforts, with examples of successful campaigns and their metrics.
  • Well-versed in the use of social media and project management tools such as ClickUp, Buffer, and Salesforce.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience addressing multiple audiences and adept at posting/responding on various platforms.
  • Ability to plan and use online content for websites and social media platforms with consistent messaging tailored by platform and audience.
  • Understanding of website SEO and analytics, plus social media measurement to optimize messaging.
  • Experience with email marketing and CMS systems for distribution.
  • Ability to work with colleagues at all levels to develop marketing goals and evaluate results.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, positive, and creative attitude to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal budget and lead time.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, Google G-Suite/Workspace, and Google Analytics.
  • Experience with basic HTML, WordPress, and other content management systems is preferred.
  • Experience using contact databases such as Salesforce and/or self-publishing software like Constant Contact or Mailchimp is desirable.
  • Passion for and commitment to Pittsburgh's startup community and growth.

  • Experience with graphic design tools or software.
  • Familiarity with video editing software for content creation.
