About the position

The Digital Marketing Specialist at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, plays a crucial role in enhancing the digital presence and engagement of the College of Communication and Information (CCI). This full-time position involves developing and executing digital content strategies for social media and email marketing, managing website content, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support student recruitment and retention efforts. The specialist will also serve as the primary liaison for the university's digital marketing vendor, ensuring effective communication and execution of marketing strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a digital content strategy for social media and email marketing campaigns.
  • Provide support for website edits and form creation.
  • Monitor engagement across all digital platforms and provide insights.
  • Support graphic design efforts as needed.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the university's digital marketing vendor.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive recruitment strategy for undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Lead and execute social media strategies in support of the college's marketing goals.
  • Manage planning and execution of all social media activity on college platforms.
  • Gather analytics and provide insights on social media strategies.
  • Understand audience behavior and build social media audiences.
  • Manage college-level student social media takeovers.
  • Develop and implement social media marketing campaigns for student recruitment.
  • Plan, create, and share timely content across social media platforms.
  • Monitor comments and mentions to maximize user engagement.
  • Develop a social strategy around digital fundraising in partnership with the advancement team.
  • Attend events to photograph/video for social media.
  • Develop and implement an online recruitment strategy campaign.
  • Monitor engagement and provide periodic analytics reports to leadership.
  • Track performance of digital marketing campaigns and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Support the Communications and Marketing team with website edits and content updates.
  • Maintain and update targeted distribution lists for e-newsletters.
  • Conduct ongoing research of digital activity of peer institutions to inform strategy.
  • Lead, develop, and execute internal/external email marketing campaigns.
  • Maintain content calendars and evaluate effectiveness of digital communications.
  • Make decisions on templates for e-newsletters and build/distribute them.
  • Meet with supporting units to discuss needs and provide advice based on best practices.
  • Write, design graphics, and prepare multimedia content for various platforms.
  • Liaise with campus partners to maximize content placement.
  • Mentor other team members and interns on digital content execution.
  • Ensure all content is on-brand and optimized for search.
  • Supervise CCI interns within the Office of Communications and Marketing.
  • Assist at large scale programs and events for the college.
  • Collaborate closely with team members and contribute to projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience related to job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices.
  • Knowledge of digital content strategy best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of various social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of using smart email marketing platforms (such as Emma).
  • Knowledge of managing website content in a CMS (such as WordPress).
  • Knowledge of creating and optimizing multimedia for digital platforms.
  • Ability to evaluate analytics and create reports summarizing effectiveness of content.
  • Excellent short burst writing and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of using Adobe Creative Cloud suite (PhotoShop, Premier, Illustrator, InDesign, Spark, XD).
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with rolling deliverables.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Desire to protect and promote the university's reputation.
