About the position

Southern California News Group is looking for a Digital Marketing Specialist to join our team! Working closely with marketing, editorial, and circulation, the specialist will create compelling consumer-facing print, digital and social marketing creative to drive demand for SCNG's products and services, emphasizing the value SCNG's local publications provide to its readership.

Responsibilities

  • Promote newsroom 'news of the day' coverage, franchise reporting, reporters and awards
  • Identify and test new, effective ways to promote SCNG brands and products using digital and social media to reach new audiences and convert those readers to subscribers
  • Maintain, enhance and grow SCNG's corporate social channels including Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Instagram and other emerging media as appropriate
  • Create original social posts to tout awards, acknowledge franchise stories and key news coverage, congratulate employees for marking important milestones, welcome new hires, amplify job openings, acknowledge employee engagement in the community, pre-promote special advertising sections and unique coverage
  • Forward circulation, editorial and advertising requests to appropriate staff as needed
  • Promote SCNG's partnerships and event sponsorships as directed by marketing managers
  • Promote Reader Rewards contests and subscriber engagement activities via social media
  • Read SCNG publications online frequently to identify engagement opportunities for leadership, reporters, editors, advertising, marketing and circulation colleagues
  • Write, edit, produce and deploy various internal and external communications
  • Run leadership All Hands Zoom calls and other events and training sessions as needed across Zoom and other media platforms

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism or similar
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in or around newsrooms, media, corporate communications or advertising
  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms including X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook
  • Proficient in Adobe creative suite
  • Knowledge of Google applications and social media tracking tools a plus
  • Strong writing skills across multi-media
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Collaborative, hard-working team player
