About the position

The Digital Media Specialist will concept, author, design, and deploy high-quality digital content on behalf of UMMC Communications and Marketing, as well as support these efforts for content produced by peers in Communications and Marketing. The primary focus of this role will be on ensuring that the flagship social media accounts for UMMC and Children's of Mississippi are engaging and performing well. This position will gradually take over responsibilities from the Digital Media Manager, ensuring a smooth transition of duties. In addition to managing social media accounts, the Digital Media Specialist will be responsible for building and publishing online news articles, adding events to online event calendars, and reviewing submissions to the website's image/file upload workflow. The role also includes website updates, creating and maintaining BrightSign slides across campus, serving as a backup for weekly electronic newsletters from UMMC Communications and Marketing, and daily input of separated employees into SiteImprove software. Occasionally, the specialist will capture photographs for social media use, contributing to the visual storytelling of the organization. This position requires a blend of creativity, technical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams to enhance the digital presence of UMMC. The Digital Media Specialist will play a crucial role in shaping the online narrative of the institution, ensuring that all digital content aligns with the overall communication strategy and engages the target audience effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary administrator for all UMMC-associated social media accounts managed by Communications & Marketing.
  • Develop, write and post engaging and meaningful social media content.
  • Plan, develop and maintain web pages on the public-facing website as well as the Intranet, including writing and editing content and consulting with contributors to verify content currency, accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist Communications & Marketing leadership with content strategy as it pertains to electronic media.
  • Work with news and publications team members to consider and develop digital content to add value and interest to articles, publications and other communications.
  • Track and report analytics from social media and digital communication campaigns.
  • Create content for and schedule posts to digital video boards controlled by Communications & Marketing.
  • Post content, including, but not limited to, news stories and publication articles, to UMMC-associated websites.
  • Facilitate the creation and dissemination of electronic newsletters produced by Communications & Marketing.
  • Provide professional assistance and support to administration in the planning, design, development and management of web-based initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, Marketing or related field.
  • One (1) year of communications, public relations, or marketing experience, including involvement in the strategic planning and ongoing maintenance of business/institutional social media accounts.
  • Sound writing skills.
  • Proficiency in the administration, ongoing management and oversight of business social media accounts.
  • Familiarity with social media monitoring and web analytics platforms.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Technical skills necessary to manage digital assets and video board content.
  • Knowledge of web development, website content management systems, and search engine optimization.
  • Ability to capture photography when necessary.
  • Limited graphic design skills related to social media graphics and visual management board slides.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of constituencies.
