About the position

The Digital Navigator Librarian plays a crucial role in enhancing digital literacy within the community by providing personalized assistance to individuals seeking affordable internet services and digital skills training. This position involves developing programs and services aimed at bridging the digital divide, managing library technology resources, and collaborating with community partners to promote digital inclusion. The role requires independent work under the supervision of the Library Director and is integral to the Franklin County Library System's mission.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized or small group assistance to community members needing affordable home internet service and digital skills coaching.
• Develop programs, classes, and services that advance digital literacy skills.
• Work with community partners to identify individuals who would benefit from digital assistance.
• Manage the library's digital technology, including Wi-Fi Hotspots and devices for checkout and instruction.
• Provide customer service and technical assistance to the public regarding internet access and technology use.
• Advise clients on free or affordable internet service options and assist them in applying for these services.
• Track client progress and maintain accurate records of requests and outcomes.
• Plan and manage assistance to clients to meet their digital needs.
• Recommend materials for the library collection that support digital literacy.
• Maintain awareness of professional trends through ongoing professional development.

Requirements

• Master's degree in library science from an accredited ALA school.
• Moderate experience with digital literacy and programming.
• Valid North Carolina Driver's license upon hire.
• Certification as a NC Public Librarian from the NC State Library within one year of employment.
