About the position

This position is within the Online Services Division of the IRS, which focuses on improving user experience (UX) for digital services. The role involves conducting qualitative and quantitative research, usability testing, and collaborating with stakeholders to enhance digital products and services. Responsibilities

  • Define problems, design research studies, conduct qualitative and quantitative research and usability testing, evaluate findings and recommend evidence-based solutions.
  • Conduct UX research identifying the probable causes of digital service experience variances.
  • Select and apply the most effective UX methodology and ensure appropriate methodologies are used for solving UX problems.
  • Conduct activities associated with running usability studies, including recruiting participants and writing test plans.
  • Consult with product managers and other UX team members to conduct research and present findings.
  • Support, design, monitor, and measure UX initiatives.
  • Collaborate in the development of support and tools for implementing a common user experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Specialized experience at the GS-7 level for GS-9 applicants, including assisting in designing research studies and conducting user research.
  • Master's degree or equivalent graduate education in a related field may substitute for specialized experience.
  • Specialized experience at the GS-9 level for GS-11 applicants, including experience designing research studies and conducting user research.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent graduate education in a related field may substitute for specialized experience.
  • Specialized experience at the GS-11 level for GS-12 applicants, including experience designing research studies and working with stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with journey maps, service blueprints, user stories, or personas.
  • Experience in the public sector or volunteer service.
