About the position

The Digital Video Evidence Analyst at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is responsible for capturing, managing, and analyzing digital video evidence related to criminal and civil incidents. This role requires a keen eye for detail and expertise in video technology, ensuring compliance with legal standards and proper evidence management across multiple locations. The analyst will work closely with law enforcement and WMATA personnel to support investigations and prosecutions, while also maintaining the integrity and security of video evidence.

Responsibilities

  • Capture digital and still images from buses, trains, and rail yards related to incidents.
  • Provide images to MTPD and authorized personnel for investigations and prosecutions.
  • Ensure compliance with WMATA policies, FOIA regulations, and local, state, and federal laws in evidence management.
  • Train technicians and staff on video evidence retrieval and storage procedures.
  • Inspect video evidence storage locations for compliance and security.
  • Review incident reports to identify potential criminal or civil liability issues.
  • Coordinate recovery of digital video evidence and maintain secure storage.
  • Review requests for access to video evidence systems and maintain access lists.
  • Provide direction to personnel recovering or storing digital video evidence.
  • Assist in examining video evidence for legal matters and provide testimony in legal proceedings.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Law Enforcement information systems management or video technologies, or a high school diploma with two years of relevant experience.
  • Six years of experience in video technology and evidence management.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in evidence collection and management.
  • Direct experience with FOIA regulations and processes.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in training staff on evidence management procedures.
  • Knowledge of Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) standards.
