About the position

The Digital Video Evidence Analyst at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is responsible for capturing, analyzing, and managing digital video evidence related to criminal and civil incidents. This role is crucial for maintaining security and compliance with legal standards, ensuring that video evidence is properly retrieved, stored, and retained. The Analyst will work closely with law enforcement and WMATA personnel to support investigations and uphold the integrity of video evidence management.

Responsibilities

  • Capture digital and still images from buses, trains, and rail yards related to incidents.
  • Provide images to MTPD and authorized personnel for investigations and prosecutions.
  • Ensure compliance with WMATA policies and legal regulations for video evidence management.
  • Train technicians and staff on video evidence retrieval and storage procedures.
  • Inspect storage locations for compliance with security policies and laws.
  • Review access requests for video evidence systems and maintain access lists.
  • Provide direction for the recovery and transport of digital video evidence.
  • Review incident reports to identify potential criminal or civil liability issues.
  • Coordinate recovery of digital video evidence with authorized technicians.
  • Maintain secure storage of all video evidence and ensure proper chain of custody.
  • Develop procedures for wireless video recovery from buses.
  • Assist in legal examinations of video evidence and provide testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Review and recommend changes to department Standard Operating Procedures related to video evidence.
  • Ensure timely release of video images to authorized personnel and law enforcement agencies.
  • Conduct random checks of cameras and recording devices and arrange repairs as needed.
  • Prepare daily manpower reports and ensure completion of requests within established timeframes.

Requirements

  • An Associate degree in Law Enforcement, information systems management, or video technologies, or a high school diploma with two years of experience in video technology and evidence management.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in evidence collection management, including direct FOIA experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
