The Metro Transit Police Department, tasked with the security of 3.2 million individuals within the 1,500-square mile Transit Zone spanning the District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and Commonwealth of Virginia, executes a wide array of law enforcement and public safety functions. Integral to this mandate is digital video evidence review, a task completed within the Criminal Investigation Division. This position employs advanced CCTV technology and software critical to ensuring the security of Metro customers and employees. The individual appointed to this role will be actively involved in the essential operations of the Criminal Investigation Division. Responsibilities include real-time live video surveillance, analysis, and the retrieval and review of recorded video from the extensive camera system surveilling Metro Stations, Metro Buses, and Metro Railcars within the WMATA area. A particular emphasis is placed on the detailed examination of digital evidence, crucial to the investigative processes. The position may involve travel throughout the Transit Zone, necessitating immediate response to incident sites and crime scenes. The shift for this role is 8AM-4PM, onsite Monday thru Friday. Please note, shift changes are subject to change based on departmental needs. The Digital Video Evidence Technician is responsible for the proactive monitoring of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems, comprised mainly of cameras located on Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation (WMATA) property. The incumbent is responsible for the handling and processing of recorded images designed to bear witness to criminal and civil liability matters that are requested by Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) members and other internal or external entities. These recordings are from both mobile and fixed recording systems. The Digital Video Evidence Technician is required to drive to locations within the transit zone on a frequent basis to accomplish this accountability, and to testify about the work product during administrative hearing or civil or criminal court proceeding. The incumbent is also responsible for acknowledging and responding to a variety of WMATA related security notifications.
