About the position

The position involves overseeing the operations of the Engineering, Maintenance, and Grounds departments at The George Washington University Hospital. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, managing staff and contractors, and maintaining the efficient and safe operation of hospital facilities. The individual will also handle budgeting and energy management, while fulfilling the duties of the hospital Safety Officer.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and control the operations of the Engineering, Maintenance, and Grounds departments.
• Complete all duties and functions of the hospital Safety Officer.
• Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory agency requirements, including The Joint Commission, CMS, EPA, and OSHA.
• Manage staff and contractors to ensure efficient and safe operation of all hospital buildings.
• Plan, predict, maintain, and repair building and equipment.
• Utilize energy management and tracking tools to maintain efficient utility operations.
• Develop and manage operating and capital budgets.

Requirements

• Minimum of High School Diploma and degree or certification in a technical trade or field related to facility maintenance and engineering.
• 5 years of previous hospital engineering management experience.
• Current Certified Healthcare Facility Manager certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Intermediate level computer experience, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Building Management Systems.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, Joint Commission and CMS standards, OSHA, EPA, and state and local codes and standards.
• Experience or working knowledge in all aspects of building trades, including HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
• Previous project management experience.
