About the position
The Director of Finance & Strategy Communications at NiSource plays a pivotal role in shaping the company's strategic narrative for financial audiences, including the press, investors, and other key stakeholders. This position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive financial communications strategy that effectively conveys the company's business story and financial performance. The Director will craft earnings scripts, press releases, and other communication materials that align with the enterprise's objectives and key results (OKRs). This role requires a deep understanding of financial communications and the ability to create compelling narratives that resonate with Wall Street and other market influencers. In this capacity, the Director will lead the development of key communications plans, including proactive and reactive messaging for financial performance, quarterly results, and significant corporate events such as mergers and acquisitions. The Director will collaborate with various departments to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to media communications, enhancing the company's visibility and reputation in the financial sector. This includes preparing executive-level briefing documents, Q&A materials, and managing media relations to foster strong relationships with financial media and stakeholders. The Director will also provide strategic counsel to senior leadership, helping to frame the company's financial results and business-critical topics. By developing consistent messaging about the company's financial performance and strategy, the Director will ensure that both internal and external audiences are well-informed. Additionally, the role involves monitoring industry trends and audience preferences to identify opportunities for innovation in communications strategies. The Director will lead a diverse team, overseeing their development and performance management, while also measuring the impact of communications initiatives to enhance NiSource's overall market perception.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead key communications plans for financial and business performance.
- Create proactive and reactive messaging for quarterly results, press releases, and earnings scripts.
- Partner across the enterprise to execute integrated media communications strategies for key financial events.
- Drive communication efforts for the CFO and other Officers, including media relations and content development.
- Provide strategic communications counsel to senior leadership on business and financial results.
- Develop consistent messaging about the company's financial performance and strategy.
- Build strong relationships with financial media and stakeholders to elevate the company's profile.
- Identify and execute unique story angles and thought-leadership positions.
- Monitor industry news and trends to identify opportunities for innovation in communications.
- Define and measure the impact of communications initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in finance, financial communications, or investor relations.
- 4-6 years of public company experience.
- Strong understanding of corporate financial reporting concepts and terminology.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in distilling complex technical subject matter into clear content.
- Strong executive management skills and exceptional judgment.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong relationship-building skills with top-tier media.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure and deadlines.
- Strong skills in project management and time management.
