About the position

The Direct Care Staff position at the Crisis Center in Tuscaloosa, AL is a full-time role requiring night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The staff will work effectively in a group setting to serve the needs of clients, particularly those with mental illness and/or substance use disorders. The role involves various responsibilities including client transportation, observation, education, and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. The position also requires physical capability to lift up to fifty pounds and perform tasks in a residential facility environment, which may involve long hours and some risk due to client behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation for clients as needed.
  • Work assigned shifts, weekends, holidays, and overnight as scheduled.
  • Perform observation of clients as directed by your supervisor.
  • Assist in client education of symptoms and illness management as directed by supervisor.
  • Gain certification in the management of disruptive behaviors and de-escalation techniques.
  • Assist as needed in providing meals to clients.
  • Assist as needed in general cleaning at the Crisis Center.
  • Document all clinical notes in accordance with agency policies and within 24 hours.
  • Conduct client trainings as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.
  • Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
  • Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs by ensuring job tasks are performed in a legal and ethical manner.
  • Maintain the confidential nature of all client and Organization related activities.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Comply with all standards related to safety and health.
  • Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the department and the organization.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Manager or Crisis Center Director.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with clients with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in a mental health setting preferred.
  • Current Alabama driver's license and good driving record as defined by Indian Rivers' policy.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
