About the position

The Wireless Network Engineer position is a direct hire opportunity based in Baltimore, MD, focusing on the design, installation, monitoring, maintenance, optimization, and support of wireless and networking technologies for external customer network infrastructures. The role requires a deep technical expertise in the core components of standard wireless infrastructures, management systems, and wireless best practices. The engineer will be responsible for implementing various activities including wireless design, device configuration, equipment installation, integration, implementation, migration, testing, and troubleshooting. In this role, the engineer will support the external customer wireless network infrastructure and address day-to-day operational needs. They will also engage in pre-sales wireless network engineering activities, leveraging their understanding of LAN/WAN technologies to support, design, and integrate complex wireless LANs. The engineer will assist in planning, designing, configuring, deploying, and supporting LAN/WAN/WLAN infrastructure, and will participate in evaluating vendor hardware, software, and wireless communications products. Operational support and troubleshooting of production wireless network issues will be a key responsibility, along with facilitating technical support case escalation for customer wireless infrastructure. The engineer will document advanced enterprise wireless solutions and designs, conduct wireless design and validation, including RF site surveys for complex indoor and outdoor deployments, and support internal wireless network infrastructure operational requirements. Maintaining professional level certifications related to wireless network technologies and vendors is also expected, along with participation in technology and vendor-specific training classes.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or other directly related field
  • M.S. in related field is a plus
  • Certified Wireless Network Administrator certification is a plus
  • Vendor specific wireless certifications preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in wireless network technologies related to IEEE 802.11 standards
  • 5+ years of experience in LAN/WAN technologies, troubleshooting, and support
  • Detailed understanding of Wireless Controllers, Wireless Access Points, Wireless Clients, RF Transmissions, Wireless Sniffers, Wireless Standards and fundamentals, Wireless LAN topologies, Wireless devices, WLAN troubleshooting, 802.11 network security architecture, Radio frequency site survey fundamentals
