About the position
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role involves providing direct assistance and support services to individuals with disabilities and their families. The DSP is responsible for helping individuals achieve their personal goals, maintain independence, and participate in community activities. This part-time position requires working Tuesday to Saturday from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, totaling 35 hours per week, and involves close collaboration with a team supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Supports individuals and their families in identifying needs and goals.
- Helps individuals maintain independence within their homes and communities.
- Encourages participation in community activities and overcoming barriers.
- Assists individuals in developing social and communication skills.
- Provides a sounding board for daily concerns and promotes self-advocacy.
- Educates individuals about their human rights and respects their choices.
- Supports personal well-being and safety of individuals.
- Assists with medical, dental, and other appointments as needed.
- Helps individuals maintain their benefits and connect with community resources.
- Provides transportation as needed.
- Maintains open communication with team members.
- Completes necessary documentation in a timely manner.
- Maintains required certifications and training.
- Participates in routine support and supervision with the supervisor.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
- At least 18 years of age.
- One year experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
- Safe driving record and current driver's license required.
- Personal vehicle and current motor vehicle liability insurance required.
- Ability to successfully pass criminal background checks.
