About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role is focused on assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in leading active, productive, and empowered lives. This position involves providing support with daily living activities to help individuals maintain or develop the skills necessary for independent living and community engagement. The DSP will work in a residential setting, ensuring the well-being and safety of supported individuals while fostering a positive and respectful environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with daily living activities to promote independence.
• Maintain confidentiality and safeguard individual information.
• Document working hours accurately and communicate pertinent information to staff.
• Participate in staff meetings and required training sessions.
• Navigate escalated situations or emergencies while ensuring safety.
• Prepare nutritionally balanced meals with supported individuals according to written menus.
• Administer medications as prescribed and maintain accurate records.
• Support individuals in understanding their rights and responsibilities.
• Model and teach safety and appropriate social skills to supported individuals.
• Maintain a clean and safe living environment for supported individuals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Ability to pass a criminal history check and maintain regular attendance.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and establish good working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

• Associates Degree in Human Development, Psychology, or related field preferred.
• 1 year of experience working as a care provider or in a related role preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities preferred.
