About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves fostering independence and enhancing the quality of life for clients through compassionate care and tailored support. The DSP will work closely with clients to help them achieve their personal goals while ensuring their safety and well-being in a home or community setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with daily living activities (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and meal preparation.
  • Monitor and record vital signs as needed, ensuring any changes in health status are communicated to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide direct support in medication administration, ensuring compliance with prescribed schedules and dosages.
  • Facilitate home community care by engaging clients in social activities and promoting participation in community events.
  • Deliver patient care that is respectful, dignified, and tailored to individual needs, including dementia care for those requiring specialized attention.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Document client progress and report any concerns or changes in behavior or health to supervisors.

Requirements

  • MUST HAVE CPR FIRST AID certification.
  • Valid driver license and car insurance required.
  • DSP certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in direct support roles that emphasize caregiving and patient care practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in meal preparation to ensure nutritional needs are met for clients.
  • Knowledgeable in vital signs monitoring techniques to assess client health effectively.
  • Familiarity with medication administration protocols to ensure safe practices are followed.
  • Strong background in home community care that promotes client engagement and independence.
  • Ability to provide compassionate dementia care, understanding the unique challenges faced by individuals with cognitive impairments.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with clients, families, and team members.
