About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at Redwood Family Care Network is a part-time role based in Whittier, CA, aimed at providing essential support to adults with physical and developmental disabilities. The DSP will assist clients in their daily lives, ensuring they receive the necessary care and support to enhance their quality of life. This includes helping with personal care tasks such as dietary needs, hygiene, bathing, grooming, and dressing. The role also involves assisting clients with restroom needs and other activities of daily living (ADLs). In addition to personal care, the DSP will be responsible for facilitating transportation for clients, picking them up and dropping them off at their homes or facilities as needed. The DSP will outline, teach, and prepare daily routines for clients as specified in their Individual Program Plans (IPP), focusing on life skills such as mobility training and community integration. Supporting the goals of each consumer is crucial, and the DSP will participate in the development of IPP/ISP goals to ensure that each client's needs are met. Maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for clients is a key responsibility, as is encouraging socialization among peers by taking clients to visit family and friends or engaging in leisure activities. The DSP will also prepare daily meals and assist with clean-up, report any incidents or problems, and communicate regularly with administrators. Responsibilities

  • Assist adults with physical and developmental disabilities in their daily lives.
  • Assist with complete care of dietary, hygiene, bathing, grooming and dressing needs, including assisting with restroom and other activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Pick up/drop off individuals from/to their home/facility using personal vehicle.
  • Facilitate clients' departure and arrival for work or daily community integration activities.
  • Outline, teach and prepare daily routine(s) for clients as written in Individual Program Plan.
  • Support the needs and goals of each consumer by participating in the development of IPP/ISP goals.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment for the clients.
  • Support the needs and goals of each resident by taking them to visit family and friends, and encouraging them to socialize among peers.
  • Assist clients with personal care such as grooming and changing clothing if needed.
  • Prepare daily meals and assist with clean-up.
  • Report any incidents or problems and communicate daily with administrators.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum Experience: 3+ years of professional or personal experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities or mental illnesses with challenging behaviors strongly preferred.
  • Must have a valid in-state driver's license, be over 21, provide current registration and insurance, and have a driving record with no more than 2 points within the last 3 years.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) preferred or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of hire.
  • Must have First Aid / CPR certification.
