About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role involves providing direct supervision, training, and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. The DSP is responsible for fostering positive behaviors and skills that enhance the consumers' ability to function in daily life and prepare for employment. This position requires a compassionate approach to interacting with consumers, following behavior plans, and assisting with various daily living activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with instruction and training of employees with developmental disabilities in pre-vocational training areas such as production, cleaning, and grounds maintenance.
• Interact with employees with developmental disabilities in a professional and respectful manner throughout the workday.
• Follow behavior plans and provide First Aid as necessary.
• Utilize Crisis Management techniques for crisis intervention.
• Develop constructive habilitation activities for consumers.
• Assist with feeding, toileting, ambulating, and other custodial care as needed.
• Perform paperwork and record keeping related to vocational training accurately and timely.
• Attend mandatory in-service trainings as required by the supervisor.
• Provide an organized and structured environment for consumers.
• Encourage independence and adult behaviors in consumers.
• Communicate supply and material needs to the supervisor.
• Accept varied job assignments and changes as needed.
• Adhere to workplace safety and health policies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Experience working with people with disabilities, particularly those with autism.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as prolonged standing, lifting, and pushing.

• Experience in caregiving or direct support roles.
