About the position

The Direct Support Professional Float position at Caregiver, Inc. involves providing essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them lead independent lives. The role focuses on enhancing the quality of life for consumers by promoting their independence and dignity through daily living skills and personal care. The DSP will work under the supervision of the Home Manager and is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of the consumers while facilitating their participation in various activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support consumers in maximizing their quality of life experiences.
  • Assist consumers in performing daily living skills with as much independence as possible.
  • Guide consumers to be self-directed by teaching decision-making skills.
  • Provide ongoing supervision to ensure consumers' health and safety.
  • Facilitate daily living activities including personal hygiene, dining skills, and community access.
  • Assist in mobility for consumers using wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
  • Teach housekeeping skills and care of clothing.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to company policy.
  • Serve as a Primary Person (P2) for assigned consumers, ensuring their wellbeing.
  • Complete data collection, observation notes, and daily reports as directed.
  • Participate in the Individual Support Team and contribute to the consumer's ISP.
  • Monitor consumers' activities to ensure safety and health care practices are observed.
  • Participate in daily operations of the home, including grocery shopping and monitoring medications.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in supporting individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a valid Indiana driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background checks as required.
