About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role at WellLife Network focuses on providing comprehensive care to program participants, enabling them to achieve independence and productivity. The position requires a commitment to enhancing the social responsibility, dignity, and growth of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The DSP will engage in various activities, including medication administration, crisis intervention, and assisting with daily living skills, while also ensuring safety and well-being during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all activities enhance and support each person's social responsibility, independence, dignity, and continued growth.
  • Implement goals designed to maximize independence, including budgeting, grooming, nutritional planning, and use of community resources.
  • Safely operate agency vans and/or vehicles as per agency driving policy.
  • Complete and perform all techniques required in AMAP, SCIP, CPR, and First Aid, with employment conditional upon passing exams for each course.
  • Coordinate evacuation and ensure safety during emergencies and fire drills, including assisting others as needed.
  • Administer medication and/or monitor self-administration of medication as a certified AMAP, including documentation in the computerized EMAR system.
  • Responsible for crisis intervention and incident reporting procedures.
  • Monitor and record progress on daily checklists, behavior contracts, and other documentation.
  • Display proficiency in entering data documentation in the electronic data system.
  • Communicate relevant information to staff and supervisors, both verbally and in writing.
  • Meet routinely with participants and management to review goal progress and update program plans.
  • Assist participants in planning and following through on recreational activities, including moderate physical activities.
  • Assist in planning daily activities and events.
  • Provide training in ADL and perform necessary functions for individuals requiring total support.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
  • Act as a role model for participants in various settings.
  • Follow up on aftercare/recommendations for treatment and accompany participants to appointments as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Adapt work schedules and locations based on participant and program needs.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalency diploma required.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License with 2 years of driving experience required.
  • Experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental or other behavioral health disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of computers is needed.
  • Valid CPR Certification is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in First Aid is preferred.
