About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role involves providing essential support and instruction to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential intensive care facility. The DSP is responsible for addressing the medical, physical, psychological, and social needs of residents, ensuring their personal goals are met while adhering to established agency policies and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction and guidance to residents in daily living skills and self-care.
• Makes supportive behavioral interventions for residents.
• Facilitates and supports residents in volunteer, social, and leisure activities.
• Assists residents with physician appointments and transports them via agency van.
• Dispenses and records resident medications accurately.
• Physically assists residents with mobility and daily living activities.
• Liaises with family members and other concerned parties on behalf of the residents.
• Greets visitors and supervises visitation to the facility.
• Enforces observation of facility rules and monitors individual service plans.
• Observes, records, and reports residents' daily progress and incidents.
• Prepares individual service plan documentation.
• Provides overnight awake support and supervision to residents.
• Participates in housekeeping and meal preparation activities.
• Secures the facility according to policy.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience with intellectually disabled persons.
• Valid Virginia driver's license.
• Certification in First Aid/CPR.
• Training in Therapeutic Options (THEROPS).

Nice-to-haves

• Coursework in Behavioral Sciences.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
