About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) position is a full-time role focused on providing essential support and assistance to individuals with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum. The DSP is responsible for enhancing the quality of life for clients through personalized care, implementing care plans, and fostering independence while ensuring safety and well-being. This role requires a compassionate and dedicated individual who is patient and observant, with a commitment to delivering high-quality support services.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
• Implement individualized care plans developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals and family members.
• Observe and document client behaviors, progress, and any changes in condition, ensuring accurate records are maintained in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Provide support to individuals with disabilities, fostering independence while ensuring safety and well-being.
• Engage clients in social activities and community integration to promote social skills and enhance quality of life.
• Assist with mobility needs, including lifting or transferring clients as required.
• Administer first aid when necessary and respond appropriately to emergencies.
• Collaborate with other team members to ensure comprehensive care delivery and effective communication regarding client needs.

Requirements

• Experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is preferred.
• Knowledge of patient observation techniques and the ability to recognize changes in client behavior or health status.
• Familiarity with long-term care practices and hospice care principles is a plus.
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
• Ability to lift clients safely and assist them with mobility challenges.
• First aid certification is desirable but can be obtained after hiring if necessary.
• A compassionate attitude towards helping others and a commitment to providing high-quality support services.
