About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at Redwood Family Care Network is a vital role focused on providing person-centered care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The DSP is responsible for promoting the health, safety, and overall well-being of clients, ensuring they have a quality of life that meets their individual needs. This role involves advocating for clients and supporting them in their daily routines, as outlined in their Individual Program Plans (IPP). The DSP will engage clients in various activities, assist with personal care, and maintain a clean and safe environment. The position requires a compassionate individual who shares the organization's mission and values, and who is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of others. In this role, the DSP will outline and prepare daily routines for clients, support their socialization and leisure activities, and assist with personal care tasks such as grooming and meal preparation. The DSP will also be responsible for transporting clients as needed and reporting any incidents or issues to the administration. This position is available for both full-time and part-time employment, with shifts needed during the AM, PM, and weekends. The organization emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse and neglect, ensuring a safe environment for both clients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals with developmental disabilities to enhance their quality of life.
  • Promote the health, safety, and well-being of residents.
  • Advocate for clients and support their individual needs and goals.
  • Outline and prepare daily routines for clients as per their Individual Program Plan.
  • Assist clients with personal care, including grooming and bathroom needs.
  • Prepare daily meals and assist with clean-up after meals.
  • Transport clients in company vans as necessary.
  • Report incidents or problems and communicate daily with administrators.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for clients.
  • Participate in the development of IPP/ISP goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year of professional or personal experience in caregiving, preferably with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental illnesses.
  • Direct Support Professional Certificate Year 1 & Year 2 preferred or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification preferred or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of hire.
  • First Aid / CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid California Driver's License.
  • Candidates must successfully pass all pre-employment requirements, including a background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting individuals with challenging behaviors.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
