About the position
The Direct Support Professional role is designed for compassionate individuals who are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for clients with varying needs. This part-time position involves providing essential support in a group home or community care setting, focusing on personal care, medication administration, and promoting client independence while respecting their rights.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with personal care tasks, including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide meal preparation and ensure dietary needs are met.
- Administer medications as prescribed and maintain accurate records of medication administration.
- Support clients in memory care and hospice care environments, ensuring comfort and dignity.
- Facilitate activities that promote social interaction and community engagement.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment for residents.
- Uphold resident rights by advocating for their needs and preferences.
- Document daily activities and any changes in client behavior or condition in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop individualized care plans that address the unique needs of each client.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a group home or similar setting is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of memory care, hospice care, and medication administration is a plus.
- Understanding of resident rights and the ability to advocate for clients effectively.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.
- Compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to perform cleaning tasks to maintain a hygienic living space for residents.
- Must be able to pass background checks as required by state regulations.
- Must have a vehicle and be willing to drive clients out into the community.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in hospice care is a plus.
