About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in implementing person-centered services for individuals with developmental disabilities. This position focuses on ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of individuals while promoting community integration and personal growth. The DSP is responsible for providing support in daily living activities, advocating for individuals, and collaborating with staff to achieve service goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and services to individuals, advocating for their personal choices and ensuring community integration.
  • Assist individuals with personal hygiene care, toileting, lifts and transfers, dining, dressing, and meal preparation.
  • Encourage individuals to participate in games and recreational programs, coaching them to develop daily living skills.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for individuals.
  • Collaborate with staff to implement and record care plans, and administer medication as per special instructions.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and on-site workshops for professional growth and development.
  • Maintain certification in AMAP, CPR, First Aid, and SCIP as required.
  • Promote and support the inclusion of individuals in their community according to their unique needs and desires.
  • Assist in maintaining positive communications with family members, advocates, and service providers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, CNA certification, or Direct Support Professional certificate from an accredited organization.
  • One year or more work experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Excellent written, communication, and mathematical skills.
  • Valid NYS driver license preferred but not required.
  • Flexible work schedule.
