About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at Independent Beginnings involves providing essential care and companionship to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Help with daily activities including personal care, housekeeping, and meal preparation.
• Work closely with a team of co-workers, consumer family members, and medical professionals to support clients' independence.
• Transport clients as needed to appointments and other activities.
• Accompany clients to medical and other appointments to ensure their needs are met.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred (waiver in effect until September 30, 2023).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to communicate in English, both spoken and written.
• A personal vehicle that is well maintained for transporting clients.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Nice-to-haves

• One year of experience working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities is preferred.
• Experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), Caregiver, Home Health Aide, or in Personal Care is a plus.
