About the position
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role at Capable Hands Care involves providing essential support to adults with disabilities in their homes. This position focuses on promoting independence and enhancing the quality of life for clients through a person-centered approach. The DSP will assist clients with daily living skills, household management, and accessing community resources, while also serving as a role model and guide.
Responsibilities
- Assisting individuals to achieve their goals and independence using a person-centered approach.
- Being a role model and source of guidance for individuals in the program.
- Demonstrating dependability and maintaining a friendly attitude.
- Making appropriate professional judgments in various situations.
- Assisting individuals with independent living skills.
- Helping individuals complete benefit documents/forms and manage household tasks.
- Educating individuals on utilizing community resources.
- Assisting with scheduling medical appointments and transportation.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare/human services preferred, or a High School Diploma with relevant experience.
- Valid Minnesota Driver's License or willingness to obtain one.
- Reliable vehicle with proof of Auto Insurance in the applicant's name.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a Minnesota DHS background study.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn.
- Ability to respond appropriately to individual needs.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stoop, bend, and reach for high shelves.
- Willingness to travel up to 30 miles to meet clients.
