About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role at Coarc involves assisting individuals with disabilities to achieve their full potential and lead fulfilling lives. This position emphasizes the importance of building supportive relationships, promoting autonomy, and ensuring the well-being of those served. DSPs are expected to foster a spirit of partnership and community inclusion while adhering to ethical standards and agency policies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the emotional, physical, and personal well-being of individuals with disabilities.
  • Develop shared relationships that cater to the unique desires and needs of each individual.
  • Assist individuals in decision-making and problem-solving to encourage self-advocacy.
  • Help individuals recognize their strengths and share them in community settings.
  • Establish trusting relationships by being reliable and timely in providing support.
  • Promote healthy living practices, including diet, exercise, and emotional support.
  • Report instances of harm to individuals in accordance with agency policies.
  • Familiarize with safety measures for on-site and off-site activities.
  • Assist individuals in maintaining a clean and comfortable environment.
  • Encourage participation in community activities such as volunteering and recreation.
  • Provide medication administration support as needed.
  • Participate in service planning meetings and advocate for individuals' needs.
  • Safely operate agency vehicles as per policy and traffic laws.
  • Attend required trainings and maintain necessary certifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (TASC) preferred.
  • Exceptional written, communication, and computer skills.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to be certified in all required trainings.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
