About the position

The Direct Support Specialist Sub role at Capitol Care, Inc. involves assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in leading self-directed lives and contributing to their communities. The position requires providing support in daily living activities, ensuring health and safety, and promoting community inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities to lead a self-directed life.
• Provide assistance in daily activities such as bathing, feeding, cooking, and toileting.
• Ensure optimal physical/mental health by assisting with medical appointments and monitoring medication.
• Utilize personal control techniques to ensure safety for individuals and others.
• Ensure a safe and healthy living environment through routine inspections and maintenance.
• Provide safe transportation to work, appointments, and recreational activities.
• Report all incidents immediately upon discovery.
• Monitor individual's daily activity through documentation and communication with supervisors.
• Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
• Monitor own time card for accurate recording of hours worked.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Possess a valid driver's license in the State of New Jersey (probational licenses not accepted).
• Complete and demonstrate proficiency in required training including First Aid/CPR, Crisis Management, and Medication Administration.
• Submit to a criminal background check and not be disqualified by the Department of Human Services.
• Agree to name checks against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
• Submit to drug testing prior to employment and randomly thereafter.
• Complete a Pre-employment physical and tuberculosis test as required by the State of New Jersey.
