About the position

The Director of the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is a leadership role focused on ensuring that students with disabilities receive necessary accommodations and support services for their academic, cultural, and social success. This position involves overseeing compliance with federal and state disability laws, advocating for students, and fostering an inclusive campus environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) to ensure effective academic accommodations and services.
  • Advocate for students with disabilities to ensure equal access to academic programs and campus resources.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to disability services, including ADA and Section 504.
  • Develop and implement initiatives and programs that support students with disabilities, focusing on academic success and social inclusion.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to integrate accessibility into all aspects of academic and student life.
  • Ensure services are inclusive of students from diverse backgrounds and address their academic and personal needs.
  • Develop and deliver training on best practices for disability accommodations and inclusion.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of disability services and refine them based on student feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience related to the duties specified.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Experience in disability services, student success, or advocacy for students with disabilities in higher education is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of legal frameworks governing disability services, including ADA and Section 504.
  • Proven leadership and management experience, including budgeting and resource management.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree (or higher) in Higher Education Administration, Disability Services, Social Work, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a research-intensive (R1) university environment.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies and other disability accommodations.
