About the position

The Director of Accounting and Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial activities within the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with company goals. This role includes managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, tax administration, and cash management, while providing leadership to the Accounting & Finance Department. The Director collaborates with senior management and external auditors to maintain financial integrity and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all financial transactions are processed timely and accurately in accordance with GAAP.
  • Analyze operating results and variances to plan.
  • Oversee the accuracy of monthly sales and financial reports and provide commentaries to management.
  • Review monthly financial reports for senior management.
  • Attend monthly Group Executive Meetings and present group financial results.
  • Lead monthly meetings with other departments to review and analyze their performance.
  • Review and submit consolidation package and related disclosure items to Parent Company quarterly.
  • Review quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and present results to management.
  • Manage quarterly review and annual audit requirements by external financial auditors.
  • Remediate control deficiencies reported by external financial auditors.
  • Coordinate with internal audit team and external financial auditors to satisfy J-SOX requirements.
  • Assist Accounting Team at Parent Company with inquiries from external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
  • Assist Accounting Teams of consolidated subsidiaries with consolidation reporting issues.
  • Prepare memoranda and analyses for new or updated accounting standards and audits.
  • Assist sales companies with updating forecasts and provide TTR support for group forecasts.
  • Lead the annual operating plan and budget process by coordinating key assumptions with management teams.
  • Develop advanced reporting models to streamline monthly reporting and budgeting processes.
  • Lead the Mid-Term Plan process with various stakeholders.
  • Review quarterly and annual income tax provisions prepared by external tax specialists.
  • Coordinate with external tax specialists for audits and tax filings.
  • Monitor P&L and adjust purchase price for transfer pricing as necessary.
  • Review daily bank borrowing to meet corporate cash requirements and control cash flow.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Accounting & Finance Department staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent field required.
  • CPA certification required.
  • 20+ years of progressive accounting management experience required.
  • Proficiency in Japanese, both written and spoken, is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in quantitative and qualitative financial analysis.
  • Strong financial analysis and multi-tasking skills.
  • Proven ability to supervise subordinates and present financial data effectively.
  • Expert level proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel.
