About the position

The Director of Accounting at John Wiley and Sons, Inc. will oversee various aspects of accounting operations, focusing on enhancing efficiency in the monthly closing process while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This strategic leadership role requires exceptional analytical skills and the ability to manage a team of finance professionals effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage areas of the global RTR team, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures in compliance with international standards (IFRS/GAAP).
  • Assess and pursue initiatives to improve and streamline accounting processes and systems, focusing on automation and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal controls, maintaining high standards of financial integrity.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment and integration of financial processes.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on complex accounting issues and transactions, leveraging technical expertise to resolve challenges.
  • Manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring all necessary documentation and processes are in place.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of high performance and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP.
  • Proven experience in managing global accounting operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.

Nice-to-haves
