About the position

The Director of Advancement Communications & Collateral at The Music Center is responsible for creating and executing strategic communication plans that inspire support for the organization. This role involves collaborating with various teams to develop a comprehensive portfolio of communication tools aimed at engaging donors, prospects, and board members. The Director will manage the production of fundraising collateral and oversee contractors as needed, ensuring that all materials align with the organization's messaging and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a multi-year plan prioritizing fundraising collateral and communications projects.
  • Produce well-written and aesthetically designed fundraising collateral including case statements, brochures, and presentation decks.
  • Create content for major gifts, website, email, social media, and other solicitation vehicles.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Events on invitations and guest communication pieces.
  • Serve as the lead project manager for Advancement content in Performances magazine.
  • Implement a communications plan for the Board of Directors, including updates and materials for meetings.
  • Produce an annual report and manage select mailings for the President's Office.
  • Draft remarks and talking points for fundraisers and leadership.
  • Develop and implement a creative brief process for fundraising collateral creation.
  • Manage production budget and timelines to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Hire and evaluate contractors for design, video, photography, and writing work.
  • Align fundraising collateral with the overall tone and messaging of The Music Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in communications, ideally in fundraising or philanthropy.
  • 2 years of project management experience, including budgeting and contract negotiation.
  • Experience developing annual and multi-year fundraising communication plans.
  • Proven track record of persuasive content creation in print and digital media.
  • Excellent verbal communication, writing, and editing skills.
  • Strong teamwork and people skills with a commitment to collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Monday.com, Classy, and Adobe Creative or similar software.
  • Familiarity with Tessitura or another CRM is a plus.
