About the position

The Director of Analytical R&D and Process R&D at Merck Sharp & Dohme will lead a team of finance professionals, providing business partner support for the Analytical Research & Development and Process Research & Development divisions. This role is crucial in managing financial planning, reporting, and decision support, ensuring alignment with the company's growth in drug product and clinical supply. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with scientific leadership, while fostering a collaborative environment within the R&D value chain.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a team of five finance professionals.
• Provide business partner support for Analytical Research & Development and Process Research & Development divisions.
• Develop a deep understanding of the functions supported and their role in the R&D value chain.
• Partner with functional leaders to provide robust support in financial planning, management, and decision support.
• Communicate financial insights effectively to scientific leadership.
• Manage talent and coach team members in a complex environment.
• Drive large, complex change initiatives and provide strategic guidance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Science, or Engineering.
• 10 years of operations or finance experience.
• Strong computer skills, specifically in SAP, BPC, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Strong financial acumen and knowledge of financial planning and reporting processes.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Proven ability to build diverse peer and client relationships and influence outcomes.

Nice-to-haves

• MBA or CPA or other Master's/PhD in Business, Finance, Science, or Engineering.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
