About the position

The Director and Internship Coach will lead Alverno's Career Studio, focusing on career development initiatives and providing coaching and internship guidance to students, many of whom are first-generation college attendees. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of superior service to support a diverse student population. The Director will consistently monitor, evaluate, and recommend changes to meet organizational needs and objectives, ensuring that the Career Studio aligns with the college's mission of promoting student learning and personal development. The position requires extensive interaction with student groups, corporate leaders, and professional organizations to build relationships that enhance student career readiness. Additionally, the Director will teach and mentor students in career courses, which may involve local and regional travel to engage with various stakeholders in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Career Studio by hiring, training, developing, and evaluating staff.
  • Manage the Career Studio budget to support departmental goals.
  • Collaborate with various college departments to enhance student retention and staff development.
  • Identify funding opportunities in collaboration with the advancement office and complete necessary reporting for grants.
  • Work with academic leaders to support students' academic and career goals through innovative education.
  • Implement retention initiatives in partnership with the Division of Student Development and Success.
  • Analyze metrics to track progress toward goals and adjust programs and staffing as needed, providing reports to senior leadership.
  • Maintain communication with other colleges and professional peers, and stay active in professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in administration, counseling, business administration, communications, leadership, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a higher education career development role, employer relations, or corporate recruiting; five years preferred.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.
  • Demonstrated strengths in program development and administrative leadership.
  • Knowledge of and experience with career coaching/advising.
  • Understanding of college student development and an inclusive, student-centered support philosophy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in fundraising or grant management.
  • Spanish/bilingual skills are strongly preferred.
