Participation in Brand Think Tank groups with representatives from other departments is also a key aspect of this role, where the Design Director acts as a creative design leader. The position involves evaluating the talent and efforts of architects, designers, and consultants, monitoring the quality and suitability of their work, and providing constructive feedback based on brand concepts. The Design Director is expected to effectively communicate these concepts to global building site offices and shipyards, leading troubleshooting efforts and resolving related issues. Presentations at various levels, from executive to smaller groups, are a regular part of the job, requiring the use of diverse media to compellingly convey design ideas and recommendations. Additionally, the Design Director analyzes and compares statistics, ratios, and other metrics of various ships within the fleet and across competitors, providing observations and recommendations. This role also includes creating planning models that align with the organization's mission and values, based on thorough internal and external needs assessments. The Design Director collaborates with peer management in Newbuilding and other key departments to ensure objectives are met and manages customer relationships at all levels. Financial responsibilities include managing multimillion-dollar projects, overseeing budgetary planning, and ensuring cost control across various design-related expenses. The Design Director is also tasked with attracting, training, and retaining diverse talent, providing professional development through mentoring and performance management. This role exercises the usual authority of a director concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, and terminations.
