About the position

The Director, Assistant Controller is a key leadership role within Halozyme's Finance department, responsible for overseeing the integrity of the general ledger, accounts payable, internal controls compliance, and treasury functions. This position emphasizes precision in financial data management and fosters strong collaborative relationships with both internal and external partners. The role also focuses on mentoring team members and driving continuous improvement in financial processes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and ensure the integrity of the general ledger, including accuracy of postings and reconciliations.
  • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement of general ledger processes and systems.
  • Champion the maintenance and strengthening of internal controls to ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify areas for control enhancements and lead projects to implement improvements.
  • Manage the coordination of audit activities and ensure timely remediation of any issues identified.
  • Provide support and guidance to the team in optimizing the accounts payable process, including improvement of documentation/workpapers.
  • Identify tools, functionalities, and automation opportunities to streamline the accounts payable process.
  • Assist in the development and management of treasury policies and procedures.
  • Mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, high performance, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an accredited accounting program.
  • At least 15 years of related accounting experience and 5 years of management experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Experience with treasury management in a corporate setting.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems is required.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
  • CPA license and 'big four' public accounting experience preferred.
  • Public company and SOX-compliant pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience preferred.
