About the position

Janssen Research & Development LLC (JRD), a Johnson & Johnson company, is seeking a Director for the Bladder Cancer, Solid Tumor - Oncology Therapeutic Area to join the Data Science and Digital Health team. This role is pivotal in leading the bladder cancer program within the Data Science & Digital Health division. The preferred locations for this position include Titusville, NJ, Raritan, NJ, San Diego, CA, New Brunswick, NJ, or Boston, MA, with the possibility of remote work within the US. The position may require up to 10% travel. As the primary business leader for the Bladder Cancer Program, you will represent Data Science on key clinical development teams and upcoming late-stage programs in solid tumors. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with multifunctional team members to develop comprehensive data science and digital health solutions for priority clinical trials in the bladder cancer portfolio. This includes evidence generation to support regulatory submissions and planning for future trials. You will lead Oncology Data Science projects, coordinating internal resources, collaborating with external partners, and working with a matrixed R&D Data Science team to deliver effective solutions. In addition, you will work closely with clinical project teams and functional area partners in Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Clinical Development, Epidemiology, Commercial Data Science, and Translational Research. You will also support diagnostics projects related to the bladder cancer program and evaluate external partnerships that can leverage new technologies and data assets for the program's needs. There is a possibility for direct accountability to Oncology R&D Clinical Development, serving as Senior Responsible Person (SRP) on Janssen's late-phase clinical trials, along with other associated clinical responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary business leader for a Bladder Cancer Program within Data Science & Digital Health.
  • Represent Data Science on a key clinical development team and other upcoming late-stage programs in solid tumors.
  • Work with multifunctional team members to develop end-to-end data science and digital health solutions for priority clinical trials in the bladder cancer portfolio.
  • Lead Oncology Data Science projects: coordinate internal resources, collaborate with external partners, and work with matrixed R&D Data Science team to deliver solutions.
  • Work closely with individual clinical project teams as well as functional area partners in Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Clinical Development, Epidemiology, Commercial Data Science, Translational Research, Statistics, and others.
  • Support Diagnostics projects that pertain to the Bladder Cancer program.
  • Evaluate external partnerships that can leverage new technologies/solutions/data assets for Bladder cancer program needs.

Requirements

  • MD with clinical experience (e.g., residency), Ph.D. or Master's degree in Medicine, Biotechnology, Statistics, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, Physics, Mathematics, Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Biology or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years in clinical practice with outcomes research experience, or 5 years experience in drug development or related discipline in the field of biotechnology or real-world evidence.
  • Solid understanding of clinical oncology, including treatment paradigms, patient experience, and clinical trials.
  • Familiarity with healthcare relevant datasets, such as EHR, insurance claims or registry data.
  • Prior experience working and driving external partnerships, either corporate or academic.
  • Consistent track record of managing timelines and driving key deliverables in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and written skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hematology/Oncology fellowship training.
  • Working knowledge of bladder cancer, either through clinical work or prior research experience.
  • R&D experience at a pharmaceutical company, biotech or partner organization.
  • A non-technical understanding of common data science research practices, such as predictive technologies, data mining and/or text mining.
  • Hands-on experience with a range of data science use cases in R&D (e.g., ECAs, site selection algorithms) and strong problem-solving abilities.
