About the position

The Director of Brand Marketing at the University of Rochester is responsible for leading and overseeing the university's brand and advertising efforts. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive brand marketing strategy that aligns with the university's mission and vision, ensuring a cohesive brand identity across all communications and marketing materials. The Director will manage relationships, mobilize resources, and provide strategic counsel to senior leadership while ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and launch an overall brand strategy, defining the brand's positioning, values, and messaging.
  • Ensure all marketing materials accurately represent the brand's values, tone, voice, and look/feel across various platforms.
  • Develop a comprehensive brand architecture that unifies the university's sub-brands and coordinates branding activities across departments.
  • Conduct ongoing market research to identify trends and competitive landscape.
  • Lead the development and execution of marketing campaigns to drive awareness and positive perceptions of the university.
  • Monitor execution of marketing plans and analyze campaign effectiveness using data-driven insights.
  • Build, manage, and recruit talent for the brand marketing team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Engage with external agencies and vendors to ensure best practices in brand marketing.
  • Manage budgets for marketing campaigns and provide actionable insights for optimization.
  • Evaluate campaign effectiveness and track results to inform future strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 15 years of relevant and progressive experience required; 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in higher education focusing on enrollment marketing or communications.
  • Experience implementing major omni-channel marketing campaigns that met measurable goals.
  • Ability to connect multiple campaigns for an enterprise-level brand strategy.
  • Deep understanding of brand expression and strategic marketing campaigns preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to interface effectively with leaders and staff at all levels.
  • Experience with paid marketing and digital advertising campaigns preferred.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and provide data and market intelligence required.
  • Excellent management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HIPAA privacy rules and consent authorization process preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing content preferred.
