About the position

The Business Control Officer - 1LoD - Loan Operations serves as a senior advisor to loan operations, focusing on risk and control activities. This role involves dual reporting to both deposit operations leadership and the Chief Controls Officer, ensuring alignment of business objectives with risk appetite. The officer will identify issues, design solutions, and provide insights based on industry practices and regulatory expectations, acting as a constructive partner at the leadership level.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and support loan operations management with a risk and control perspective.
  • Collaborate with 2nd and 3rd line colleagues to maintain a strong control environment.
  • Execute key risk program activities including Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA's) and Key Risk Indicators (KRI's).
  • Develop a strong risk culture and enhance risk literacy in the first line.
  • Provide direction to control teams regarding organizational risk management priorities.
  • Liaise between loan operations management and 1LoD risk shared services.
  • Facilitate audit and exam activities.
  • Enhance understanding of relevant policies and procedures from Royal Bank of Canada and RBC Bank.
  • Assist first line colleagues in identifying and enhancing preventive and detective controls.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in first- or second-line risk and control functions.
  • Deep understanding of laws and regulations related to loan operations.
  • Experience overseeing large-scale transformation programs, including regulatory remediation.
  • Previous advisory experience in Commercial Banking, particularly in lending operations and compliance.
  • Project management or change initiative leadership experience.
  • Ability to interact effectively with executive management levels.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate risk management concepts to non-risk professionals.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
