About the position

The Director of CFO Services at Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) plays a pivotal role in working with private equity-held portfolio companies to deliver solutions that enhance value preservation and generation. The primary objective is to improve transparency regarding key business drivers and performance metrics, ultimately supporting the increase of cash flow and EBITDA. This position involves hands-on engagement with clients to ensure that private equity firms have credible plans and the capability to execute and achieve desired financial outcomes. CFO Services encompasses several key pillars, including Liquidity & Working Capital Optimization, Strategic Analytics & Planning, Performance Measurement & Management, Business Transformation, and Auxiliary Services such as Accounting Remediation. The Director will be responsible for hypothesis and scope development, connecting with clients to facilitate information gathering, guiding client interviews, and ensuring that all relevant data is considered. The role requires defining the types of analyses needed to validate assumptions and ensuring timely execution of these analyses. In terms of project management, the Director will lead components of projects that involve multiple service lines and will independently manage smaller projects. This includes proactively managing client expectations, minimizing risks, and developing actionable plans. The Director will also design initiatives aimed at generating cash and improving EBITDA, while anticipating potential risks and creating contingency plans. Collaboration with senior management is essential, as the Director must obtain buy-in from senior management and board members on actionable plans. Leadership is a critical aspect of this role, leveraging industry expertise and prior professional services experience to guide the team and foster innovative thinking. The Director will take accountability for issues identified by both the client and the team, building complementary teams based on individual talents and capabilities. Financial acumen is crucial, with complete proficiency in financial modeling, financial statement analysis, and understanding accounting treatments. The Director will identify and drive accountability for P&L and balance sheet performance, utilizing tools and resources to facilitate change management and streamline processes.

Responsibilities

  • Connect with clients to facilitate information gathering.
  • Guide and facilitate client interviews to ensure all relevant data is considered.
  • Define the type of analyses needed to prove or disprove assumptions.
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely execution of analyses.
  • Apply industry and functional knowledge to identify business drivers and issues.
  • Develop actionable conclusions from analyses.
  • Lead components of projects with multiple service lines and independently manage smaller projects.
  • Proactively manage client expectations and minimize risks.
  • Develop straightforward actionable plans and lead individual workstreams independently.
  • Design cash-generating initiatives and EBITDA improvements.
  • Anticipate risks and obstacles early on and create contingency plans.
  • Engage and work collaboratively with senior management to obtain buy-in on actionable plans.
  • Leverage industry expertise to guide the team and promote innovative thinking.
  • Take accountability for client and team identified issues.
  • Build complementary teams using individuals' talents and capabilities.
  • Complete proficiency in financial modeling and financial statement analysis.
  • Identify and drive P&L and B/S accountability.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited 4-year college/university with a concentration in accounting, finance, or economics preferred but not required.
  • Over 12 years of experience in Accounting/Finance, Financial Due Diligence, Restructuring, Investment Banking, or Private Equity.
  • Complete proficiency in understanding financial models, data analytics, and presentation skills.
  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or Master's Degree preferred but not required.
